What's Stearic acid?

Do you know what's in your hair products 👀? It's easy to watch YouTube and then get so frustrated that you can get those same ingredients from your local store without wondering, is this what I should use? Will this dry out my hair? What are all these acids and additives; I just don't get it! 

I just bought some vitamin E with some ingredients like stearic acid and Sorbitan; it's important to me to know what's on my roots. A lot of natural products include additives like these as an emulsifier.
